The Springstone School is an independent, non-profit middle school and community high school that serves students with Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1, Non-verbal Learning Disability, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and other Executive Functioning challenges. Located in the city of Lafayette, the school provides a serene environment and small classroom settings to support the growth, development, and achievement of its neurodiverse population. The Springstone Middle School is the first middle school in the nation to exclusively address the unique challenges students with Autism 1 and other associated diagnoses often face in typical classroom settings. The school’s mission is to embed social skills, occupational therapy, mindfulness, and community engagement with an academically rigorous curriculum in order to prepare students to be independent thinkers and doers who can engage in their community. The Springstone Community High School was later created to expand the program to include grades 6th through 12th and continue this goal with an increased focus on post-high school success. The Springstone School has several key goals for all its students, including appreciating the diversity of various cultures and communities, identifying and articulating the perspectives of self and others, developing skills necessary to become responsible, flexible, and resilient, acquiring skills necessary to move effectively through the community, and understanding the relationship between independence and dependence. The school regularly hosts events, such as Oktoberfest 2024 and a Save the Date event for 2025, and welcomes visitors to come and get to know all that the Springstone programs have to offer through group tours and open houses.
